WELCOME TO THE L.T.T.C. DIPLOMA IN TEACHING ENGLISH
TO SPEAKERS OF OTHER LANGUAGES
First, a few words on how to use the course:
?
It is entirely up to your whether you spend all your waking hours on it, or spread the load over
several months.
?
Some of you will read more thoroughly or more thoughtfully than others, so we cannot dictate
how long you should spend.
?
We would suggest that reading a module (preferably at least twice), doing the tasks and
exercises, and writing two essays is unlikely to involve less than 20 hours? study.
Further reading
would be in addition to this.
?
Although the course is self-contained and further reading is not mandatory, we do encourage it
and we would certainly expect essays for a pass at Grade A to show evidence of considerable
original thought or wide reading, or both.
For the essays;
?
Quality
is obviously more important than
quantity
, but as a guide most are in the range of 1000
+ words.
If you are submitting essays by
post then please write or type on A4 size paper
,
and
if typing, use one side only.
Also please number the questions.
Your final grade,
?
Will be an average of your eight pieces of work ? an A and a C averaging at a B, for example.
In
borderline cases, if we cannot make a clear decision by reviewing your work as a whole, we shall
ask you to submit a sample of work from the tasks and self-correcting exercises.
All eight pieces
must reach a minimum grade of C.

phonetic font tool you will need to be able to read and complete the tasks for the course.
