Rubric for Guidance Policy/Philosophy

 Your guidance Policy MUST Have Six(6) sections

 See each section below.

 Must provide example/s for each type of guidance methods, strategies,

behaviors, type of guidelines.

 Label each section with the Heading as stated

 Then use bullet points for each type of guidance methods, strategies, behaviors

and guideline.

What is your Philosophy

One paragraph at least (5-7 sentences)

 Write a small and simple paragraph stating your guidance policy.

Answering these three key points):

 In your own words, what does guidance mean to you?

 How does your guidance policy/philosophy help children become problem

solvers?

 How can you as a teacher promote learning with this guidance

policy/philosophy? Learning is not only limited to how to become problem

solvers but what else do you hope they learn to use? What else can they apply

these concepts that they learn to other areas of their lives?

Guidelines for Setting Limits( 4)

Must use these guidelines

 What do you as a teacher trying to accomplish by Setting Limits? ( consider the 4 guidelines for setting limits)

 Ensure the safety of each child and

adult

 Prohibit the destruction of non-

disposable materials and equipment

 Endure individual acceptance of

responsibility for one’s actions

 Ensure equality and respect of all

people

 Write a paragraph of 5-7 sentences

about your own perspective of setting limits, why & how you will set limits.

 Things to consider in your response may include but not limited to:

 Are parents allowed to help set

limits?

 What will you consider when setting

limits? (Space, time, age, etc.)

 Think outside of the box. Show us

what your real perspective shine in

your own policy/philosophy

GUIDANCE METHODS

(4-5)pick 4-5 from the list below or from McFarland

text.

 Use I-Message

 Give information and wait for the child to respond

 Natural/logical consequences

 Give Choices(must be acceptable)

 Contingencies( a 2nd action depends on the 1st action)

 Removing and sitting apart( No time out)

 Using phrases like” It’s time to” It’s important, I need you to”

 After selecting the four guidance

methods you think would best fit within your guidance philosophy/policy you will do the following:

 Write a minimum of 5-7 sentences For each one, you should include why you selected them, what you hope children will gain from these modeled behaviors, and how they align with your overall guidance philosophy, and policy

Paragraph (5-7

“Modeled Behavior”

 Write 5-7 sentences about which of four behaviors you will use within your center.

 For each one, you should include why you selected them, what you hope children will gain from these modeled behaviors, and how they align with your overall guidance philosophy, and policy.

Prohibited Punishments

 What type of punishment are prohibited?( refer to DCF 251)

 MUST List all the information's related to prohibit punishment( points may be

deduct if not list all.

Simply copy and list what you find in the DCF 251 booklet. These are non-

negotiable. You do not need to write about why they are prohibited.

Strategies to reinforce positive

behaviors( must use the Infor. Below)

 Rewards such a stickers

 Favorite activity,

 Prize box of toys

 Certificates

 Daily reports

Select 3 out of the 5 and write a paragraph on why, how, and where they would best fit in within your child guidance policy/philosophy. These should align with the guidance methods that you have selected and be cohesive. They should make logical sense as you explain why they are being chosen by YOU to use in your very own center.
