Introduction
Lynching is the public killing of a person who is not legally charged.
It was conducted under the pretense of achieving justice.
Lynching typically targeted Americans of African descent.
They were assembled before a mob that tormented.
Victimizing minorities through violence needs to be stopped.
Lynching To Spread Fear and Dominance
In the 19th and 20th centuries, African-Americans feared being
lynched (Louise Wood, 2018).
They were being targeted because it was a white man’s common
practice.
Angry white supremacists would string Black people on trees and
beat them.
Victims of lynching would die a cruel death.
Whites did all this to spread fear and dominance.
Africans’ Development Threatens White Dominance
Lynching activities persisted in the reconstruction era.
African Americans had created a social class similar to whites.
The whites felt threatened by the African Americans’ developments.
They turned to false accusations to justify lynching activities
(Smångs, 2020).
Sexual transgressions and stereotyping among male Blacks were
used.
Anti-Lynching Campaigns
Campaigns against lynching started because it was illegal.
Ida Wells fought tirelessly to expose lynching.
Her journalism work published lynching reports internationally.
She helped in the creation of national anti-lynching campaigns through NAACP
(Francis, 2019).
The campaigns helped in the formulation of anti-lynching laws.
Modern-Day Lynching
The barbaric and disrespectful practice of lynching still occurs.
There is widespread white supremacism among the whites.
This challenges 21st-century American society.
Police brutality in Black neighborhoods is on the rise.
George Floyd is a victims of modernday lynching (Brown,
2020).
Conclusion
Americans take pride in being a civilized society.
Lynching should not be a part of the society.
Black Lives Matter is a reaction to modern day lynching.
Lynching has to be stopped through better policies.
The perpetrators have to be brought to face the law.
