Discussion Topic: Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions (Florida Early Learning Center). Some key indicators of school readiness that are linked to social emotional development:

Persistence at difficult tasks
Ability to express emotions appropriately
Ability to make and sustain relationships with peers and adults
Confidence
Ability negotiate and cooperate in a group setting
When children don?t have these skills, they are less likely to benefit from even the best instruction and they are more likely to engage in challenging behavior
We know social emotional development in preschool and early childhood provide a foundation for a child?s later school and life success.

Visit the Center on the Social Emotional Foundations for Early Learning http://csefel.vanderbilt.edu/resources/strategies.html#teachingskills (Links to an external site.) scroll to the bottom of the page and select ONE Case Study. Review the biography, observation card and functional assessment.

In your post, state the Case Study you selected and discuss which of the strategies the Center recommends would you implement for this student if he or she were in your classroom. Remember to cite support in APA 7th ed.
