Describe the Electronical Medical Record system that is used on your clinical practice site.

At my clinical site we use Practice Fusion for the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system. Practice Fusion is a cloud-based provider of electronic health records that focuses on evolving consolidative environments for healthcare professionals. Among other clinical and service record preservation and access features, primary functions include charting, prescription management, electronic prescription transmission, medical billing, imaging, and scanner integration. In addition, patients can quickly access their patient health records through the patient portal in the Practice Fusion app, which boosts patient engagement. At my clinical site, telehealth visits are offered to patients. Practice Fusion and Updox teamed up to offer a HIPAA-compliant telehealth solution with encrypted text, easy-to-use video sessions for patients and clinicians.

What are the Pros and cons you have found.

Just like with any software used at a workplace, there are both pros and cons to the system. Pros for the Practice Fusion EMR is that it is user friendly easily accessible to all of the essential components needed without having to go through a lot of steps. It makes ordering medications electronically to a patient’s pharmacy easy. Additionally, patients receive access to a Practice Fusion portal where they can view the outcomes and documentation of specific items related to their visit, request prescription refills, manage appoints, patient referrals and communicate with the provider. Cons for this EMR is that there are no new slots for advance care planning or sufficient room to list emergency contacts. There is no organized section with reminders for preventative care when it is past due. This would be very beneficial for patients who are not compliant with completing screenings or lab work. The system tends to have some glitches, and when trying to attain technical help from customer service, they are not very friendly, making the experience unpleasant.

Is E-prescription incorporated on the EMH?

Practice Fusion does incorporate E-prescription on the EMR. The system makes the prescribing of medications electronically easy to use. It has the option to view multiple pharmacies and select certain ones as a favorite. It also alerts when a medication dosage or route is ordered incorrectly. The implementation of electronic prescribing has significantly reduced the number of medication errors from a prescription standpoint legibility, dosage, and frequency (Kenny & Preuss, 2022).

Does it have adaptive learning?

Practice Fusion possesses the capacity to implement tools that enhance the workflow. With the ability to personalize your EMR, you can start charting in only a few minutes. Practice Fusion has a specialty-specific template library that has adaptive smart charting, and fully customizable encounter notes, allowing the practitioner to get easily acclimated. It also has the capability to prescribe medications from a desktop, laptop, tablet, or cell phone device which is an easy function to maneuver.

Does it have Incorporated patient doorway?

Practice Fusion has a patient portal that allows patient to see a recap of their after-visit summary including vital signs, medications prescribed during the visit, medications that were discontinued by the provider and patient instructions. Without the need for double entry, patients can log in and complete their registration and intake forms from the patient portal, allowing the information to flow into their chart, so the practitioner does not have to manually input it into the system. The portal will also allow the patient to view their test results, diagnoses, and plan of care.  The patient information is safe and protected by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA). Taken together, the HIPPA Privacy Rule and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH) have encouraged an environment where Americans should have easy access to their health records (Rosenbloom et al., 2019).

Is there Flexibility with the absence of internet connectivity?

Patient Fusion is a web-based application which was made to be easily used from any type of device. Unfortunately, since it is a web-based application, it requires a broadband connection with high internet speed. If internet connection is not attained, the system will not be operable.

Does it have effective documentation and Image management capability.

Practice Fusion does have effective documentation and image management capability. The system has integrated scanning and allows users to upload documents from a patient chart. Additionally, users can upload documents by dragging and dropping files from their computer onto the documents tab. It allows the practitioner to view files of images that were scanned or downloaded such as radiology imaging. The patients also have the capability of downloading and attaching files and images onto the portal and sending them to the provider via portal messaging.

RESPONSE 2

Introduction

As a nurse in the outpatient setting, I have had the opportunity to experience the use of an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system in my clinical practice. This system is widely used in healthcare facilities and is designed to improve the efficiency and accuracy of patient care by digitizing the patient’s medical information. The EMR system that is used in my clinical setting is a comprehensive and user-friendly system that helps us provide high-quality care to our patients.

Pros

One of the pros of using the EMR system is its ability to provide real-time access to patient information. This allows healthcare providers to access important patient information such as medication history, test results, and medical history in a matter of seconds. This helps to eliminate the need for manual record keeping and reduces the risk of medical errors. Another advantage of the EMR system is the ability to improve communication between healthcare providers. With the EMR system, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers can share important information about the patient’s care and treatment, leading to better collaboration and more effective care (Tandon, 2019).

Cons

However, the EMR system also has some cons. One of the biggest challenges that I have faced with the EMR system is the learning curve associated with using the system. While the EMR system is user-friendly, it can take time for healthcare providers to become familiar with the system and all of its features. This can lead to frustration and decreased efficiency for healthcare providers who are not familiar with the system. Another challenge with the EMR system is the need for reliable internet connectivity. The EMR system relies on a stable internet connection to function properly, and without a strong internet connection, it can be difficult to access patient information and complete necessary documentation. This can lead to delays in patient care and decreased efficiency (Tandon, 2019).

E-prescription incorporated on the EMH

In my clinical setting, the EMR system does incorporate E-prescription, which allows physicians to prescribe medications to patients electronically. This helps to reduce the risk of medication errors and improves the efficiency of the medication dispensing process.

Adaptive Learning

The EMR system also has an adaptive learning feature, which helps healthcare providers to become more efficient in using the system over time. The system will automatically adapt to the provider’s preferred way of working, making it easier for providers to use the system and reducing the time needed to complete documentation (Hung et al., 2021).

Patient Doorway Incorporation

The EMR system also has an incorporated patient portal, which allows patients to access their medical information and communicate with their healthcare providers. This helps to improve patient engagement and increase patient satisfaction with the healthcare experience.

Documentation and Image Management

In terms of documentation and image management, the EMR system has effective capabilities. The system allows healthcare providers to easily access and store patient images, test results, and other important information, making it easier to keep track of the patient’s medical history. This helps to improve patient care and reduces the risk of medical errors (Hung et al., 2021).

Conclusion

In conclusion, the EMR system that is used in my clinical setting has both pros and cons, but overall, it has been a valuable tool in improving the efficiency and accuracy of patient care. With its ability to provide real-time access to patient information, improve communication between healthcare providers, and incorporate patient portals, the EMR system has helped to improve the overall healthcare experience for our patients.
