Group Project – Data Modeling

For all references to the Business Scenario, please see the pdf document titled “Case Study – TechPointe.pdf”.

Your Project Team is required to translate the below business need into two entity relationship diagrams (ERDs): one conceptual,
and one logical including all attributes and domains including keys. Be aware that this assignment is NOT the entirety of the
business described in the separate document, but rather a portion of it. Be sure to stick to this scenario and its specific needs, and
do not allow “scope creep” to pull you into other areas of the company’s considerations.

Each team will be required to submit a Power Point presentation document that includes the following slides:

1) Team name and members (you decide your team name)
2) Business Case for this assignment
3) Conceptual ERD
4) Logical ERD

This Power Point document is due no later than 11:59pm AZ time on Sunday, January 16th 2022 . Please have each group
member submit identical documents to the web portal – this can be found in the Assignment section for our Relational Database
Fundamentals module.

Business Need

TechPointe Services, LLC employs consultants. Each employee can be skilled in different technologies, and multiple employees can
be skilled in the same technology, each with their own level of expertise.

The company bids for projects – these projects are obtained via different sources (referral, government contract, return customers,
etc.). Each project could require a mix of technologies – for example, Project “A” might require 18 different technologies, while
Project “B” might require just one. Employees are assigned to each project based on their technology.

Each employee is paid based on the project, with their rate negotiated based on the difficulty of the project.

TechPointe Services, LLC has enlisted you to create a working relational data model that will support the above scenario, and their
expectation is that the created Logical ERD will account for all data requirements for recording, reporting, and analyzing th is
information.

Business Scenario – TechPointe

TechPointe Services, LLC is a small firm founded in early 2015 that specializes in technical consulting. With a current headcount
under 50, TechPointe is focused on expanding its client base and providing the most efficient services possible, with an eye toward
growth in a sustainable fashion.

Technologies currently available within the TechPointe portfolio include analytics and reporting solutions (i.e. Excel, Tableau),
database development (i.e. Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, PostgresSQL), data science structures (i.e. Python), and various ancillary
skillsets including object-oriented programming and end-to-end user interface solutions as well.

TechPointe holds itself in two distinct but related divisions: Operations and Financials.

Operations include employment of consultants skilled in different technologies. Some technologies have no current consultants
possessing those skills, while others have multiple consultants with the same technological background and different levels of
experience and expertise. TechPointe bids for different projects – each project comes from a source (i.e. referral, existing customer,
government agency), and may require a mix of technologies. Consultants are assigned to a project based on their technological
skills.

The Financials Division encompasses compensation for TechPointe employees and expenses incurred as part of a project (a
budget), as well as billing of external clients via invoice and payments, which can potentially be made in installments. Each project
has its own revenue amount, which includes the billable amount (how much a client pays TechPointe) as well as expenses including
consultant pay (varies dependent on level of difficulty) and operational costs such as hardware and software purchases.
