Expository Essay Prompt

An expository essay gives information about a topic to the reader in a manner that is well-researched and clearly organized. Some expositions involve comparing and contrasting differences within a given topic of interest. In a 600 to 800-word essay, research and write an informative/expository essay in response to one of the following questions:

1. How has the decline in the honeybee population affected farmers in the United States?

2. How do ‘hybrid’ cars (ones that use both gasoline and electricity) differ from traditional (gasoline-only) cars?

Narrative Essay Prompt

A personal narrative essay relates experiences from your own life using storytelling techniques to draw the reader into a personal event or incident. In 600-800 words, write a narrative essay in response to one of the two following topics:

1. Think back in your life to something you did or said that makes you proud. Describe the event, what you did or said, and how your decision impacted your life.

2. Think back to an experience that had a significant effect on your life. Describe the experience, why it was so impactful, and how your life is different today because of it.

Your personal narrative essay should have a sequential organization that tells your story linearly from beginning to end. It should provide details about the events surrounding the topic, as well as descriptions of the setting, the people involved, and/or your personal thoughts about what was happening at the time. Rather than requiring research, this assignment requires attention to detail and description as a major component of the final grade. Review this lesson to help guide the format and organization of your narrative essay.

Please write your essay in APA format.

Argumentative Essay Prompts

1. Using social media has become a way of life. We can now easily connect with old friends, keep in touch with people across the world, and even form relationships with people we may never meet face-to-face. Is the increasing use of social media leading to more enhanced, meaningful connections than ever before, or is it detrimental to people’s relationships with one another? Can real relationships begin on social media? Consider these questions as you write an essay on your position regarding whether the use of social media is beneficial or harmful for creating and maintaining relationships.

2. The generation born between 1984-2004 are known as ‘Millennials.’ This group, which has grown to over eighty million people in just the United States, is the subject of much controversy. While some view the Millennial generation as innovative and hardworking, others describe them as lazy and self-involved. Which side of this debate are you on and why? Are Millennials’ contributions and perceptions of work, relationships, and society changing the world for better or for worse? Consider these questions as you write an essay on your position regarding whether or not the Millennial generation is the next great generation.
