You are free to choose a topic that relates to materials (and concepts) found in chapters covered in your class. Your term-paper must be written on an 8.5 x 11 page with 1 margins on all four sides. A 12-point Times New Roman font must be typed in double-spaces lines without excess white space in the main body of eight(8) pages(i.e. excluding the Title Page (on 1stpage) and the last page that contains a list of references). Your final work (in MS Word or PDF file format) should include four major sections: the Title Page (with the author name (YOU)),An abstract (or a Summary of the Paper),Main Body (i.e. Introductory, Body and Summary paragraphs), and References sections. On the last page of your paper which is the reference page, you must include at least ten (10) references. They must be from textbook, peer-reviewed articles from Economic journals and/or sources from reputable international organizations such as the United Nations (UN), the World Bank (WB), the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Inter-American Development Bank(IDB), African Development Bank, Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development and African Development Bank, OECD or similar multinational organizations. At least one of those references is less than 30 days old, and you must cite it in the body sectionso that I know for certain that the paper is composed by you not recycled. How to Write an Acceptable Composition in Economics with Modern Scientific Inquiry Methods: a Proposition Common strategies such as qualitative and quantitative analyses (in a college-level term-paper) are normally practiced in the defense of a thesis especially in senior classes in most majors. The abstract and introductory sections normally presented the directional flow of an argument (i.e. qualitative) or mostly about three key defenses about the papers topic. The analytical or quantitative body normally contains facts, data and/or statistics that are embedded in tables, graphs or mathematical expressions especially in Economics writing. They are explained by sentences with numbers or statistics or facts among their midst. More importantly, three main reasons (as if you are writing a standard Freshmen English essay) supporting the title are wrapped up around those facts or hypotheses and are presented in a flow of reasons mostly in the cause->effect->evidence style which is a typical modern scientific inquiry procedure. The last sentence in each pillar of the topic normally restates the reason why the evidence (or facts) contributes to one of the three columns supporting the title of the thesis. Finally, the conclusion section recites the supporting towers that explains why the structure (i.e. the title of your term-paper) exists and can be considered self-evidence. Your central findings (i.e. the Structure) depend on both quantitative and qualitative strength of your reasoning around facts (i.e. statistics, historical evidence, economic reasoning, etc). The tactic of qualitative and quantitative combination will guide the reader steps by steps-with a train of reasons which are backed up by facts and statistics. This objective can be achieved by
Compartmentalizing your paper in the four major sections -with key supporting pillars in the Main Body. In short, your main aim is to win over the audience (which may not share your same viewpoint nor have the same Economics knowledge that you have) and to be convinced by a flow of rational arguments beginning with the abstract to the concluding sections.
