1. According to the Sayama book, ?A model is a simpli?ed
representation of a system? (p13). Models contain properties at both the
macroscopic and microscopic scales (see p.4 for a definition). Browse
recent news articles to find one that discusses a system and how it is
affected. Identify what the system is, the microscopic properties, and
separately the macroscopic properties that affect it. You should not
research the system beyond the article for your original post, only
answer the discussion based on the one article. Make sure to provide a
citation to your article. For a response post, research the system that someone else has
discussed and add at least one more microscopic or macroscopic property.
How does this affect the system? Make sure to cite your source in the
response also.

2. Throughout the semester, we will be using a dataset from the US
Census. Recent news has highlighted the fear of how a citizenship
question may be used (for example, see https://www.nbcnews.com/news/latino/latinos-asian-americans-still-fear-2020-census-over-citizenship-question-n1113066).
However, their ?mission is to serve as the nation?s leading provider of
quality data about its people and economy? and has helped to make
important planning decisions about communities and funding (see https://www.census.gov/about/what.html). We will discuss the actual uses of census data and look at this for ourselves.

For this discussion you should find one article (news or
scholarly) that explains a positive or negative use of the census data
that is not related to the recent citizenship question. Briefly explain
how the data was used and the impact this has had on the US population.
Make sure to clearly indicate if this is positive or negative impact (or
both) and provide a citation. If you are having trouble finding an
article, you may want to apply a search filter to exclude recent news
articles since many of them focus on the citizenship question.

3. A hypothesis test can be used to test if something is different
than a given value or to test if two things are different. Similar to
the previous discussion, you should find one article (news or scholarly)
that claims that one thing is different than a value or that two things
are different. Summarize the claim and the importance of the claim and
clearly state what the null and alternative hypothesis would be if this
claim was tested. Make sure to cite the article and any other
information used. For a response post, please identify what you think the data would
look like if a dataset was provided with the article. Specifically,
describe the variables. Then explain which type of test you would use to
test the article?s claim and why this test was chosen.

(Only need a paragraph each for the response)
