Class, that doesn’t mean that only people who are more comfortable with writing can write well . Writing is a skill and like all skills, it can be improved.
Class, let’s explore this a bit more: Writing is a skill-it’s not a subject like history where we learn some facts and information that we either forget or remember. It’s a skill much like riding a bicycle, knitting, or tuning an engine. It’s something we “do”, not learn. So, if we think about writing as a skill, what are ways that we learn skills, learn to correct errors we make when doing a skill, and what are ways we become better at a skill?
Class, think of a skill that you do well. Answer the following about the skill:
1. How did you learn the skill?
2. How did you become better at it?
3. How did you know that you had made a mistake when you made a mistake while doing the skill?
4. How did you learn to correct that mistake?
5. Do you think that you are so skilled at the skill that you have no more to learn or do you think that you can continue to improve that skill? Explain.
