Tearney WellsBuilding relationships with students and parent is crucial for overall success of the student. To build a relationship with students and parents, the teacher must show empathy, build trust, be compassionate, and set expectations. In addition, to create a family atmosphere their must be unity inside of the classroom. First, students must have a good relationship with their teacher, then the students must feel comfortable around their peers. This means that the teacher must have a good classroom management skills and genuine relationships with their students. By using positive reinforcement and understanding the students individual needs, then the teacher can properly group their students. This will make the students feel more comfortable speaking in class and behaving properly. Thusly, I have created a family atmosphere in my classroom by include those key ingredients. Specially, I use positive reinforcement, high expectations,  individualized lesson plans, and genuine relationships with my students. Additionally, the teacher must have a partnership with their student’s parents/caregiver in order to support academic success. The teacher must communicate their classroom management plan and their expectations with the parent so the parent can reinforce the behavioral traits at home. In all, the students behavior in the classroom is a reflection of their home life. The parent must be involved in the child’s academic career for the student to be successful at school. Therefore, the teacher and the parent have to have a relationship so that they can figure out what the student needs. This positive relationship between the parent and students have a positive impact on the student.

Kristen Davis     In my classroom, I try to create a family atmosphere for my students. I encourage my students daily to respect all of their peers regardless of their ethnicity and socioeconomic status. It is essential that educators are having conversations to promote the establishment, growth, and benefits of parent-teacher groups. According to the article, educators can conduct forums at faculty meetings to lay ground rules for productive conversations (Cucchiara & Woyshner, 2017). Since we have faculty meetings on a weekly basis, this would be a great opportunity to address the challenges and obstacles of striving to create a family atmosphere.   Part II.      There are many practices that can encourage cooperation with parents and families in order to support their children’s education. The six types of involvement from Dr. Joyce Epstein’s framework are parenting, communicating, volunteering, learning at home, decision-making, and collaborating with community. Volunteering is one type of involvement my school uses as a tool to establish partnerships with parents and families or caregivers to build support. According to Epstein (2022), this occurs when educators recruit and organize parent help and support. When parents or caregivers enter the doors of the school building, they are able to go into the parent room which is located close to the front entrance. In the parent room, parents and caregivers can attend meetings and receive resources for their families. Our parent liaison also provides families with both household and food items such as laundry detergent, dishwashing liquid, paper towels, tissue, soap, canned vegetables, canned fruit and bottled drinks. Another type of involvement my school uses as a tool to build partnerships is collaborating with community. According to Epstein (2022), this occurs when educators coordinate resources and services from the community for families and students to take advantage of and provide services to the community.
