MODULE 4

Research-Based Strategies

In this module’s Application assignment, you will answer the third of Dr. DuFour’s questions: How will you respond when students experience difficulty in learning? DuFour states that the ability to successfully answer this question is what determines a high-performing school.

From your school’s State Report Card, you have identified an area of instructional need. You have also identified a barrier that is preventing you from reaching your goal or making the desired change.

In this module, you will research strategies that high-performing schools have successfully used to attain their student achievement goals and eliminate barriers to student achievement/mastery of standards.

Step 1:

To locate strategies used by high-performing schools, explore the No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon Schools at

.

Step 2:

Search the Web for research-based practices related to your identified area of need. Tutorials for conducting research are available

.

Step 3:

After completing your research, answer each of the following questions in at least one well-developed paragraph. Be sure to support your assertions with references and use correct APA format. Include an introductory paragraph which reminds the reader of your teaching situation or the one you will use for this assignment and a concluding paragraph which draws together the key ideas of your paper.

  • Re-state the achievement goal (Module 2) and the identified barrier to the goal (Module 3).
  • Describe in detail two strategies used by high-performing schools or supported by research you could use (or would like to see used) in your school to eliminate the barrier preventing attainment of the achievement goal.
  • Explain in detail the potential impact of implementing these two strategies.
  • Explain in detail the potential costs (time, energy, and money) required to implement these two strategies.
  • How much control do you or your colleagues have over the implementation and success of these strategies?
  • Describe in detailed steps what you would do to make these ideas a reality for students. Think critically about what you would do and provide a realistic, detailed plan.
