I am currently residing in 2327 Quail Run Road, Arlington, Texas 76014. Based on my street address and zip code my state house district number is 101 and it is represented by Democratic incumbent Chris Turner. He has been representing state house district 101 since 2013. He served in different committees that is Business and industry committee, House Higher Education Committee and Redistricting committee. In the last legislative session, he authored bill on HB 449 Referred to Higher Education on Feb 25, 2021(Relating to authorizing the issuance of revenue bonds to fund capital projects at certain public institutions of higher education). I think his area of interest is for education and health especially for the high school education.

I belong to State senate district number 22. Brian Birdwell represents this district and is affiliated with Republican. He has been serving since 2010. He served in different committees that is “Natural Resources and Economic Development (chair); State Affairs (vice chair); Criminal Justice; Higher Education” In his last legislative session, he authored bill on SB13 (Directs state agencies to divest from financial companies that boycott business on the basis of their status as an energy company). I think his interest is seen in controlling crime and maintain security.

A primary election is the first phase in the process of securing a party nomination for a political office. In contrast, a general election is an election in which candidates are chosen to be elected to office. “A primary election is held to choose party nominees ahead of a general election or to reduce the number of candidates running for a particular electoral post.”[footnoteRef:1] Voters choose a candidate in a partisan primary to represent their political party in the related general election for a particular post. Primary elections are sometimes used to select candidates for general elections. “General elections occur at the local, state, and federal levels and normally happen regularly”[footnoteRef:2]. Depending on the jurisdiction, political party, and office or offices up for election, different rules may apply for primary elections. For state senate district 23: Democrat candidate incumbent Royce West won the nomination of the democratic party and will run in the November elections with no opposition from the Republican party.

For state house district 101: Democrat candidate incumbent Chris Turner won the nomination of the democratic party and will run in the November elections with no opposition from the Republican party.

There were no runoff elections for both, my state house and state senate districts.

There are no changes in the state house district number, but state senate district’s number has changed. It was previously 22 and now it is 23.

There are so small changes in the state house district. As we can see there was 29% white voter before and now it is 32%, a raise of 3%. Whereas percentage of Hispanic voters decreases by 3%. The black voters changes with the minor decrement of 1% and Asian voters percentage’s remains constant.

Talking about State senate district, there is a significant change. As we can see there was 67% white voter before but now it is only 26%, which is a drastic decrement of 41%. The Hispanic voters increases from 17% to 24% with the increment of 7% Whereas percentage of black voters has significantly increased from 12% to 46% that is raise of 34%. Asian voters percentage’s increases from 4% to 14% which is 10% increment.

“The politicians use redistricting to manipulate the outcome of elections is called gerrymandering. It is a practice that undermines democracy and stifles the voice of voters.”[footnoteRef:3] In the District Map, since the two map do not seems to have solid or have regular shapes which makes them to be gerrymander. Both maps have irregular shapes and doesn’t have any perfect cutout shapes like square, rectangle which is an example of gerrymandering.
