The narration essay is an essay that has an introduction with an attention
grabber that then smoothly transitions into an opinionated thesis statement
(The thesis statement should be the last sentence in your introduction).
The body of the essay is one long personal story from your life that supports
the thesis. In each body paragraph, you must have at least 2 to 3 sensory
details (Visual, sound, smell, taste, and touch descriptive details) and one
emotional detail (feelings, thoughts, reactions, and responses). The
entire essay must include one example of dialogue and three examples of
figurative language (for this, you must create your own metaphor, simile,
and/or personification within the body of the essay, and you may choose any
combination of those three types of figurative language).
Draft one is just two pages long and must include the introduction and 2 to 3
body paragraphs, or however much you can write to get to the bottom of
page 2. The second draft is the entire essay, which is a minimum of four
pages long (to the last line of the fourth page). With the second draft, you
will finish the body of the essay and add a brief conclusion paragraph that
both stresses your thesis and says something new.
The entire essay must be written in first person point of view. The thesis
statement is the only sentence that must be written without first person
point of view because you don?t want to limit the scope of your thesis. An
example of an opinion-based thesis statement would be the following
statement: The most successful relationships always contain a certain
degree of dishonesty. If that were my thesis for my essay, I would choose a
personal story from my life that is an example and proof of that point. In the
body of the essay, I would narrate that story from my life using specific
sensory details and description and the other requirements that I listed
above. The essay must be written using correct MLA document format. For
an example of that, go to the OWL Purdue MLA website and see the sample
