The Civil War was the deadliest war in American history. When it ended, citizens faced the impossible task of creating a unified federal government. Political leaders employed complex rhetorical strategies to achieve this goal.

Select a work from our timeframe for the week which includes an image of unity from the Reconstruction period.

Describe the image. You can do an internet search using the terminology of images of rhetoric from the Civil War or images of rhetoric from the Reconstruction. You’ll have to look through to make sure you are choosing one from that specific era.
