1. The first skill that the leaders of the group demonstrated was being able to orient and set clear rules and expectations for the group. According to Dale & Smith (2013), one of the stages of forming a group is an orientation which is to establish the purpose of the group and make introductions. At the beginning of the case study, it explains that they laid out the group rules as well as started with the trust-building process. Another skill that was utilized was building trust which helped to establish a working relationship with the clients. Without trust, effective communication would not be possible, which is another skill that is evident in the group leader?s approach. This communication allowed for members to relate and openly share their experiences.
2. Regular follow-up appointments are important to maintaining support through challenging times. Contacting their group leaders and other medical professionals that have helped these individuals through this difficult time will help them to move on and live their best lives.?Therapy can be the next step for some of these individuals to help maintain their sobriety. The group leader started the first session off with clear rules and roles for everyone involved. According to Dale & Sith (2013), roles are differentiated by power, which in this case study the power is with the group leader. In the case study, it explains that they made it clear that they were not there as experts at life rather than leaders who were there to be a source of support.?They ensured everyone that there would be confidentiality within the group, and the only point that information would be shared is if there was any immediate danger to themselves or others. This helped to build trust between the group members and the leader of the group.
