Hi Jamie!?The AANP sounds like a great organization to join when we finish our journey!?As a BSN nursing student,?utilizing evidence-based practice was practically drilled into our heads.?As a floor nurse in an inpatient mental health unit,?I always assumed that the policies and procedures that we were bound by were also grounded in evidence-based practices.?It wasn’t until I joined our Policies and Procedures committee that I realized how many policies were dated and needed to be updated to reflect the newer practices.?Learning this was very eye-opening for me that we really must be proactive in any position as a nurse.?To address Dr. Forrest?s comment, I feel that this is how empowerment is applied. The basic definition of empower is to give someone the power to do something?(Merriam-Webster, n.d.). As a nurse leader, we must encourage our nurses and colleagues to pursue knowledge in their field and to provide input to improve the quality of care that we provide to our patients. Health care organizations can do this by providing educational opportunities to nurses employed by them and allowing nurses from all levels to participate in policy review.?Professional organizations such as the AANP are a great place to find resources as we become scholarly practitioners in our chosen fields. While navigating the website, I was pleased to find that the AANP website contained clinical resources by therapeutic areas (American Association of Nurse Practitioners, n.d.). As a psychiatric nurse, I am always looking for current resources that may be helpful in my practice. Thank you for providing a great website to learn from!

The “NCSBN is a not-for-profit organization whose U.S. members include the nursing regulatory bodies in the 50 states, the District of Columbia and four U.S. territories (About NCSBN, 2022)”. Their mission and vision state they work to empower and support nursing regulators in their mandate to protect the public…. lead regulatory excellence worldwide (About NCSBN, 2022). According to their website, NCSBN’s creation arose out of the recognition that to guard the public’s safety, the organization involved in the regulation of nurses needed to be a separate entity from the American Nurses Association (ANA) (NCSBN, 2022). While there is no specific reference to EBP on their website, part of their use is to produce the most sound and legally defensible nurse licensure examination consistent with current nursing practice.???

Considering their goal is to produce a flawless nursing regulation examination, it is hoped that they are using EBP research to assist with creating this test. It has been found that “the rise in patient power and the governmental agenda of service user consultation and involvement have created a climate of care in which nurses have to be able to justify not only what they do but also how and why they are doing it (Ellis, 2019)”. This puts greater importance on regulatory bodies such as the NCSBN. It is paramount to create the most up-to-date and evidence-based examination for current nursing practice.??

After reviewing the NCSBN website, my perception has not changed as they appear to be who they claim to be. They work to stay separate from the American Nurses Association to help avoid biases and prejudices in regulatory changes.??
