The women’s protection act of 2021 is the health policy that I chose. This act prohibits the government, both state and federal, from making restrictions on the provisions of and access to abortion services (Congress,2021). The government will not be able to limit care providers from prescribing abortion drugs, offering of abortion services, immediate abortion services. The government will also not have the right to require care providers to perform unnecessary procedures, provide medically untrue information, carry out all services connected to an abortion, or comply with credentialing not related to provider’s services that are medically comparable to abortions (Congress,2021).
For years, abortion laws have been a very controversial topic amongst politicians. Most of which have all been conversations against abortions. Many people ,especially women, believe that the government should not tell a woman what she can and can not do with her body when it comes to childbirth. People who agree with these are referred to as “pro-choice”. People who want abortions are referred to as “pro-life”.
In the state of Georgia, women may obtain an abortion within 20 weeks of gestation. After 20 weeks, it is illegal to get an abortion. One would have to travel to another state where it is legal to have abortions. This is not fair to women who do not wish to be pregnant because of certain circumstances such as rape, poverty, etc. I believe this policy to stop bans on abortions is evidence-based. According to pro-choice Georgia, Georgia has the highest maternal mortality rate in the country and many of them were forced to give birth because of restricted access to abortion clinics or gestation pass 20 weeks (prochoice Georgia, 2022). “In 2018, Georgia received a “D” for reproductive health and rights due to low scores in prevention, affordability, and access.8 NARAL Pro-Choice America categorized” (prochoice Georgia, 2022). With use of the CDC evaluation framework, this policy should definitely be implemented. There is enough evidence that shows how much harm ban abortions does than making legal and accessible. It will engage stakeholders with evidence and justified conclusions, which are steps in the CDC evaluation framework (CDC, 2022).
