During a recent interview with a new hire, a candidate was asked several discriminatory interview questions. The candidate filed a claim with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). After your organization’s chief executive officer (CEO) was contacted by an investigator at the EEOC, you, as the newly hired human resources (HR) director, were asked to develop a new recruiting strategy and hiring process that will meet EEOC regulations. This process is needed immediately because a new mid-level manager needs to be hired.
Your CEO has asked you to recommend your strategy for filling this position. Once you develop your strategy, you will then have to prepare a presentation in which you will brief and train the organization’s leadership who will be assisting in this hire.

· Discuss any legal considerations to be aware of during the selection process.
Your PowerPoint presentation must be a minimum of 14 slides in length, not counting the title or reference slides. You must utilize the slide notes function in PowerPoint to add speaker notes to each slide; these notes should be used in order to explain or expand on slide content as if you were actually presenting this to your audience. Alternatively, you may add audio to the slides, but if you do so, you will need to provide a transcript of your audio in a separate Word document and upload it in Blackboard in addition to the PowerPoint file.

For this assignment, determine an effective process to evaluate the performance of one of your employees. As you have determined that periodic evaluations can be more beneficial than annual evaluations, you will be evaluating the mid-level manager who you hired and who has now been on board for 6 months. Your process should include an appropriate evaluation tool and a means of providing feedback on the employee’s performance issues.
There are three parts to this project. You will begin by developing a performance review form that contains a minimum of 10 points of criteria. This
template
is a starting point and may be used as is or can be modified as you wish. The template has 10 points of criteria; however, you can add more if the specifics of the position warrant you doing so.
· Provide an explanation for each of the criteria. Remember, these should directly represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) as well as the requirements for the position.
· Develop a rating scale, and provide a legend that identifies the distinct performance rating definitions. There must be a minimum of three levels. (The template has three levels; however, you can add more.)
· Next, you will fill out your newly created form to evaluate the mid-level manager. This is, of course, based on the input of the immediate supervisor and your own assessment.
· Evaluate each criteria, and include a minimum of three criteria where the employee does not meet performance expectations.
· Summarize the employee performance appraisal in the comments section.
· Identify the employee’s strengths and weaknesses.
· Offer feedback and coaching on ways that the employee can improve his or her performance.
· Finally, you will write a one-page synopsis in which you explain the value of your evaluation process and new tool to your leadership team. Include the information below:
. how the changes will benefit the organization,
. how equal employment opportunity laws were considered, and
. strategies that leaders can use to address unmet employee performance expectations.
· Include two sources to support your explanation.
The template is only a guideline. You are encouraged to modify it as you wish, as long as it still meets all of the above listed requirements. Combine your completed template and the one-page synopsis into one document (.doc or .pdf) to upload in Blackboard. Ensure that you include a title page. Today, you learned that your organization has a significant change initiative planned within the next 6 months. The chief executive officer (CEO) has asked you, the human resources (HR) director, to lead this change initiative. You will need to motivate your supervisors as they work directly with the employees; their role in this change will be critical. For this assignment, you will start by doing some self-analysis to prepare yourself to take on heading up the change initiative.
First, begin your paper by briefly describing the change that will take place at your organization. Then, browse the Internet to find one of the many leadership style quizzes that are available. Take the assessment to learn more about your personal leadership style. Consider a traditional leadership style test such as
What’s Your Leadership Style?
. An assessment that gives a more nontraditional leadership style assessment is
The Leadership Legacy Assessment: Identifying Your Instinctive Leadership Style
. However, feel free to find your own. Ensure that the assessment provides enough analysis for you to be able to determine your own style.
Once you have taken a leadership style assessment, you will then write a reflection paper that includes the elements listed below.
· Compare and contrast your two top leadership styles. Did your results surprise you? Why, or why not?
· Evaluate how your leadership style could impact employee motivation and the change initiative.
· Select two supervisors from those portrayed in the unit lesson to join your change initiative team, and explain why you would choose them. What roles are they best suited to play in the change process, and how will you mentor them to utilize their strengths and improve on their weaknesses?
· Provide an analysis of the motivational theories that could play a role in successfully leading employees through the change initiative.
· Identify areas where you think you can improve on your own leadership skills to ensure this change initiative is a success.
Your reflection paper should be a minimum of three pages in length. Your writing should reflect an in-depth consideration and personalization of the concepts presented in this unit, and your interpretations should be insightful and supported.

The employees at your organization have formed a union, and the bargaining process now begins. Write a case study in which you analyze the situation. First, begin with background information about the negotiation, and make certain to address the areas below.
· Identify the state where the organization is located. Is the state a right-to-work state? If yes, explain what this means. If no, explain what this means. Why are the employees deciding to unionize? What are the mandatory bargaining subjects? Other than wages and hours, what are five other terms and conditions of employment? What are permissive bargaining subjects that will be negotiated? List at least five.
· Second, you need to select members of your bargaining team. You will select four supervisors who were identified in the Unit VI Lesson. Discuss why you selected each supervisor, and compare/contrast their conflict management styles. Each supervisor must have a different conflict style. Explain how each supervisor can contribute to conflict resolution strategies used during negotiation.
· Third, explain the two collective bargaining strategies, and identify which one you will recommend your team to use. Explain and support your rationale.
· Finally, what will you propose happens if a labor management agreement is not reached by your team and the employee representatives?
Your case study must be a minimum of three pages in length, not counting the title and reference pages. Your case study should present an insightful and thorough analysis with strong arguments and evidence. You must use three academically reliable sources to support your analysis.

Questions must be at least 200 words in length. No references or citations are necessary.

1. You have been given the opportunity to update one federal or state law that prevents discrimination. What law would you update, what changes would you make, and why?

2. Think back to the last time you were interviewed for a position. Share your experience regarding the interview process. If you were in a human resource management position at that organization, what practices would you keep the same, and what practices would you change?

3. Reflect on and share the compensation strategy at your current or previous employer. Which benefits are most valuable to your retention, and why? If you could make one change to the strategy that could increase the quality of potential employees, what would it be, and how would you convince the chief executive officer (CEO) to change the strategy?

4. Do you know if you are an auditory (learn by hearing), visual (learn by seeing), or kinesthetic (learn by doing) leaner? Using your preferred search engine, search the following terms: “learning style self-assessment.” Then, take one of the many available online self-assessments.

Do you agree or disagree with the results? Why, or why not? Reflect on a time when your learning style could have been better met during a training experience. What could have been done differently to facilitate your learning?

5. Based on your experience, what is the goal of performance feedback? Describe a performance evaluation where the supervisor had room for growth and development. What could he or she have done differently?

7. Offer your opinion as to whether you believe unions are still relevant in today’s work environment. If there were no unions, how else would employees have a voice? Explain the rationale for your answers.

8. Consider whether or not you should take a position in another country. Discuss what would be most important to you and what might influence you to take the position. Discuss how you can apply the concepts learned in this class should you take this position or any other future position you might hold.
