Additional Task 1
Step 1: Read the job posting and the three sample resumes. Then, explain in about 150 words who did a better job matching their experience with the job posting. So it’s not about who has the best experience for the job, but who created the strongest resume and why: sample resumes.docx
Step 2: Research two companies you could realistically apply to today and write a 300-company profile for each company (600 words in total) to highlight what’s important to them (if you have already completed Additional Task 2, you can use the same company profiles). Things to consider: the company’s history, founders, detailed description of what it does, number of employees, its values and standards, mission statement, objectives, achievements, current projects, etc. Some of this information will be given to you by the company’s website, some of it will have to be read between the lines. If images or screenshots from the websites help you describe the companies, use them but don’t forget to explain what they show. Be sure to provide a link to the companies’ websites. No need to cover everything: Since 300 words is not a lot to describe a company, focus on the most relevant elements that will help make sense of the choices you have made in your résumé for each company.
Here’s an example of a company profile: Company Profile Sample.pdf
Step 3: Then, create two different resumes, one for each of the two companies you’ve researched and include a 200-word reflection on how you’ve created them in way that would match the companies. Explain why the two resumes are different, yet each is appropriate for its intended company and would not be effective if sent to the other one. Be sure to compare and contrast your choices in the resumes for the two companies.Job Listing

This is a networking letter, where you ask about the possibility of future openings. It often comes out of nowhere, so it has to do more work than a letter responding to a specific job ad (which is called a letter of application) because you need to introduce yourself, catch the reader’s interest, and show yourself as a good match for the company.
Things to keep in mind about letters of interest:
· They should be tailored to the company you are sending them to.
· They should show off your research on the company.
· They should show off your experience and skills: tell them why you would be a great addition to the company (don’t rely on the resume).
· Your letters should not be formulaic: you shouldn’t be able to just change the name of the company and send it to another company.
· Go into specifics for your experience and skills.

Knowing all of this about letters of interest, compare these two letters and pick the one you think is strongest, explaining why (150 words). The length of these two samples gives you a sense of the length for your own letter.

Dear Ms. Anne Jackson,

I read about Big Company Name’s retail management training program in College Graduate Magazine and I would like to inquire about the possibility of openings. I am interested in a career in retail management and am planning to relocate to the New York City area in the near future. I would be interested in learning more about the company and about available opportunities.

As a recent graduate from Stetson University, I have a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management. Additionally, I have retail experience as a Sales Associate and have completed two internships focusing on retail management.

My resume, which is enclosed, contains additional information on my experience and skills. I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss the training program with you and to provide further information on my candidacy. I will call you during the week of January 24 to discuss possible employment opportunities. In the meantime, if you need to contact me, my number is (555) 678-6787. Please leave a message if I am not in, and I will return your call the next day.
Thank you very much for considering my request. I look forward to talking with you.

Dear Mr./Ms. LastName,
The American Company has been recognized as one of the best places to work in the country for IT professionals. You have deliberately set out to create this culture, and it shows! It is my understanding that you have been deluged with resumes since Computerland released their list of the best companies at which to work.
Mine is one more, but I do have some experience that is hard to come by.
My IT experience gives me a unique ability to apply technology, in all its forms, to business processes. Some of the business process knowledge includes accounting, finance, facilities, inventory control, budgeting, vendor management and various operational processes.
I have experience with merger/acquisition events, high growth challenges, technology replacement projects, and IT process improvement. I have delivered large technology projects on schedule/on budget and in alignment with the business strategy. Companies I have worked for include ICM, HEP, IBX and SED.
I would enjoy an opportunity to talk with you or someone in your organization to see where my skill set would be of the greatest benefit to your company.
Sincerely,
