Final Project: Research Presentation (75 points)

· Develop a research-based Power Point or Prezi presentation on a self-selected crisis-related topic. The topic may be related to one of the topics in the textbook or a topic not found in the textbook – it’s your choice. If assistance is needed in selecting a topic, contact the professor.

· The presentation should be 8-12 slides in length, not including the title slide and the references slide. Current research findings, statistics, and facts should be the major focus of content on each slide.

· The content of your presentation must be taken from professional sources outside of the textbook – in other words, you may use the course textbook as point of reference or for ideas but the majority of the presentation’s content must come from at least three additional professional resources.

· Acceptable resources include: professional peer-reviewed journals; academic resource books or other textbooks; .edu and .gov websites; carefully reviewed .org websites that are affiliated with professional organizations; and other academic resources or textbooks. In some instances, .com or .net sites are acceptable to include – use your best judgment. Examples of unacceptable sources include: some .com or .net websites; Wikipedia; non-peer reviewed publications (i.e., popular magazines or websites); and other non-academic or questionable sources. Ask the professor about the credibility of a source if you are unsure.

· Professional citations (use APA format) must be included on individual slides and a complete reference list (use APA format) must be included on the final slide(s) of the presentation.

· Do not submit full or partial presentations from other courses or accessed from other people/sources – this is a violation of the EIU Student Conduct Code and will result in the grade of F on the assignment or in the course, depending on the individual infraction. This has been a problem in the past and the professor carefully checks each presentation with this in mind. Thank you in advance for taking this seriously.

· Submit the presentation in two places :

-Upload presentation attachment to the Assignment Drop Box by the scheduled due date. This is where the professor will assign the grade and provide feedback.

-Post presentation attachment to the discussion board by or on the assigned date in the appropriate topic heading section (“Presentations”). You are expected to read all presentations posted by classmates. You are encouraged to post comments and reflective thoughts in response to the presentations of your classmates.

· Refer to the Assessment of Presentations rubric for criteria used to evaluate the presentation.
